“Why Lioness Tile?”
"Through this venture, I see the dreams of many rural women being fulfilled—giving them a chance to gain financial independence."
The answer to 'Why Lioness Tile?' is very simple for me: through this venture, I see the dreams of many rural women being fulfilled. It gives those who have been socially left behind a genuine opportunity to manifest their true potential and gain long-overdue financial independence.
The Economic Imperative of Rural Women's Empowerment
I am deeply grateful to my husband, Manpreet Singh, my family, our Co-Founder Erik Duffield, and our talented rural women artisans for making Lioness Tile a reality. While I was fortunate to have people supporting my goals since childhood, that is not the reality for most women across rural India.
According to International Labour Organization (ILO) data, there has been a steady decline of rural women in the workforce. Many suffer not only from economic poverty but also 'information poverty.' Crucially, an OECD report on Women Empowerment shows India's GDP could rise by 8% if the female-to-male worker ratio increased by just 10%.
I see the dreams of many rural women being fulfilled.
I’m thankful to my husband, Manpreet Singh, and my family, who have always been my pillar of strength.
From Software Engineering to Handcrafting Tiles in Jaipur
Higher female earnings translate directly into greater household investment in children's education, health, and nutrition, driving long-term economic prosperity. Watching our artisans grow from strength to strength in technical skill and personal confidence is uniquely humbling.
"As the OECD highlights, higher female earnings translate into greater investment in children's education, health, and lasting economic growth."
Transcending from the world of Software Engineering to pressing my first handcrafted cement tile has been an extraordinary learning journey. Lioness Tile has become our favorite topic of discussion from breakfast to dinner, and living this dream gives me an unmatched sense of fulfillment.
Being part of something far bigger than oneself makes every challenge worthwhile. Feel free to connect directly with me at daminder@lionesstile.com as we continue writing this transformative story together.
