Bagru - The Village; The StoryThree centuries ago, the native weaver and dyer communities of Rajasthan were drawn across the sands to a village known as Bagru, by the banks of the river Sanjaria, on the outskirts of modern day Jaipur. Soon after, the village began to flourish, and rose enjoy an enviable reputation as the masters of block printing, handicrafts and textiles. Cut to modern times, and the rapid industrialization and advent of textile automation has destroyed Bagru’s traditional handicraft economy, leaving its natives struggling to find sustainable avenues of employment.
Helping Artisans Craft Their Future:Enabling Hidden Artistry: From professionally training artisans in each aspect of tile making process, providing a sustained source of income, to creating a conducive space to work in, it has been a conscious mission to unravel the innate talent of the local women artisans and workers of Bagru, and make them stakeholders to our collective growth and learning.
